St Augustine's Monastery in Erfurt is a unique monument to mediaeval religious architecture. At the same time it is not only an internationally recognised conference and meeting centre, but is also, well known world-wide as an important station in the life of Martin Luther. In August 2004 the monastery was certified as a “national heritage site of special cultural interest” (nationales Kulturdenkmal von besonderer kultureller Bedeutung).
Martin Luther lived here as an Augustinian monk from 17th July 1505 until autumn 1511. There is a standing exhibition BIBEL – MONASTERY – LUTHER in the monastery which is well worth seeing. There is also a unique library of historical books.
St Augustine's is situated close to the city-centre of Erfurt. From here you can easily visit the historical old city quarter (Altstadt) and follow Luther's footsteps.
Lectures, discussions, concerts and theatre regularly take place in the monastery. You will find our events page here.
You will find information about our guided tours here.
There is a choice of nine rooms for events with space for up to 200 people. With enough notice it is also possible to book St Augustine's church which has seating for up to 400 people for services and events.
We will be happy to give you an individual quote for your conference, celebration or reception. You will find more information about our meeting rooms here.
You can spend the night in the quietness and seclusion of the monastery and short step away from the bustling centre of Erfurt.
