The St Augustine's church choir is the city-wide oratorio choir for Erfurt (120-150 members). Every year 3-4 choir symphonic works are performed, for example Bach/Christmas oratorio/passions/cantatas, Handel oratorios, Mozart requiem, Schubert masses, Brahms requiem etc., in addition to these there are also cantata services.
St Augustine's Vocalkreis sets itself the objective of performing a cappella choral music with chamber choir instrumentation. The approximately 20 members are usually musically active in other areas and/or bring long-standing choir experience. St Augustine's Vocalkreis came second in the German choir competition of 2002. New participants are required to have previous experience and perform an audition.
The Andreas Chamber Orchestra is a string orchestra (approx. 25 members) with two fields of activity: rehearsals and performances of oratorical works (Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Mozart, Schubert, Brahms etc.) together with the Augustinian church choir as well as working on orchestral programmes of their own (principally baroque music).
The three ensembles are under the directorship of Dietrich Ehrenwerth, cantor of St Augustine's and of the Predigerkirche and state church-music director of the Evangelical Church of Central Germany (EKM).
The series of evening concerts in the summer months (on Saturdays at 10 p.m. in the cloisters or in St Augustine's church) has been a fixture for several years . The current programme of concerts can be found on the events page.
