Travelling by train

  1. From Erfurt Hauptbahnhof take a number 1 tram towards  Europaplatz. Get off at the stop called Augustinerstraße. (The tram stop is in Johannesstraße. Augustinerstraße is on the opposite the church tower called Johannesturm).
  2. You can also catch this tram on the Anger (one stop from the station). All trams stop at the Anger which is one of the main shopping streets in Erfurt

Travelling by car:

coming from the Autobahn A4, exit: Erfurt Ost:

  1. Follow the signs for Erfurt Stadt Zentrum. This will bring you to Weimarische Straße (2-lane artery road with railway lines on the embankment to your right). Eventually after 5.5 miles (8.5km) from the motorway exit you will come to a large road junction with a bridge over the road to the right of the junction.
  2. Turn right and go under the railway bridge into the Stauffenbergallee (2-lane ring road ). Move into the left lane as soon as it is safe to do and follow the signs for Stadt Zentrum.
  3. At the 1st traffic lights, turn left into Trommsdorffstraße still following the signs for Stadt Zentrum.
  4. After about 150 metres turn right into Juri-Gagarin Ring (2-lane, inner ring road).
  5. Follow the signs for Erfurt-Nord / Nordhausen.
  6. Remain on Juri-Gagarin Ring until Videothek and Erfurter Bank appear to the right.
  7. Take the left fork into Am Hügel at the traffic lights.
  8. At the Nikolaiturm (a tall grey church tower without a church), turn left into Augustinerstraße. There are a few parking spaces in front of St Augustine's church. However, there is nearly always more space in the car park in Am Hügel than in front St. Augustine's church. After parking, please come to reception in the monastery.
  9. We wish to advise you that because of the situation in the Altstadt we only have a limited number of parking spaces available. For this reason, a reservation at St Augustine's does not include a parking space for vehicles. We request your understanding in this matter!

coming from the north or Nordhausen (Bundesstraße B4)

  1. Follow the signs for Stadt Zentrum. This will bring you to Gothaer Platz (a busy junction).
  2. At the trafffic lights at the end of Gothaer Platz turn right into Straße des Friedens. Move into the left-hand lane.
  3. At the next traffic lights turn left into Bonifaciusstraße. Half-way along the street name changes to Walkmühlstraße. At the second set of traffic lights (with Presseclub on the left) turn right into the Juri-Gagarin Ring (inner ring road).
  4. Remain on Juri-Gagarin Ring and follow the signs for Erfurt-Nord / Nordhausen until Videothek and Erfurter Bank appear to the right.
  5. Take the left fork into Am Hügel at the traffic lights.
