St Augustine's Monastery is especially important because Martin Luther lived here as a monk from 1505 to 1511. This is the place where the Reformer-to-be studied and taught and this is where he struggled for recognition of a merciful God.

The standing exhibition BIBLE-MONASTERY-LUTHER was opened in May 2002 and can be viewed in the former dormitory of the monks.

The exhibition impressively tells the story of the Bible, the life of an Augustinian, mendicant monk in St Augustine's as well as the life of Martin Luther in Erfurt. The exhibition also includes a replica of Luther's cell.

St Augustine's Monastery is one of 19 Bible centres in Germany. The exhibition can be visited during a tour, or individually by prior arrangement.
