Children and young people are an important part of our society and of the Church. As early as the thirteenth century the Augustinian monks were committed by their basic ideals to dedicate their lives to education and learning. St Augustine's Monastery has stayed true to this fundamental principle and has remained an authentic place for education up to the present day. We see it as our responsibility to offer children and young people opportunities for learning which even today are seldom found.
We are and have alwys been concerned with the question: “How can children and young people from primary and secondary schools get to know St Augustine's in a way that is interesting for them?"
That is why we called this project “St Augustine's monastery – a place for living and learning”. The main modules are:
the standing exhibition “Bible-Monastery-Luther ",
the historical Library of the Evangelical Mission in St Augustine's monastery,
Monastery,
Martin Luther – the monk,
St Augustine's Church,
Chapter Room,
Cloisters,
Dormitory and Refectory and
"Stations of a pilgrimage".
All of these topics overlap and go beyond the history of the Reformation. They comply with the guidelines and specifications of the curriculum for schools in the Federal State of Thuringia as well the recommendations for interdisciplinary topics and were developed and realised in close co-operation with teachers.
The courses within the schools project are held in the German language. If you wish to find out more please consult the German pages
